What kind of school is this?

Learn to be good company for someone who is struggling.

Short video episodesOne question to reflect onA live Q&A every month

  1. What this school is

A school for learning to listen well — to the people in your life, and in your work.

  2. Company before cure

Most people who are struggling do not need to be fixed. They need someone who stays. Everything here is built around learning to be that person.

  3. Two abilities on one path

How to be with someone who is struggling, and how to stay steady while you do it.

The two are learned together. The same attention you give another person, you learn to turn toward yourself.

  4. Who this is for

People who listen for a living, and people who simply want to be better company for someone they love. The first course is the same for both.

  5. Watch, reflect, try

Each lesson is a short talk or a long, real conversation. Afterwards you get one question to take into your own week.

Nothing here asks you to perform. It asks you to notice.

  6. What this is not

This is not therapy, and it does not replace it.

It does not grant a clinical qualification.

If you or someone near you is in danger, contact local emergency services first.

How an episode works

Every episode is watch, reflect, practise: a short video, one question in your own words, and one real conversation that week.

  1. 1

    Short video lessons

One idea per lesson, taught plainly, with the reasons behind it.

    15–30 min each

  2. 2

    Real conversations

Long, unhurried interviews: watch how a good listener leaves room for the other person.

    20–40 min each

  3. 3

    Reflection prompts

One question to take into a real conversation this week, and a place to write what happened.

    5 minutes

  4. 4

    Live Q&A

Bring the conversation that went wrong. The teacher and other learners think it through with you.
